WE WANT YOU SIMON!!!!

Jay: OK - I KNOW THAT I HELPED NICO WRITE THE "WE HATE SIMON" RANT, BUT IN MY DEFENSE - HE WAS EGGING ME ON!!  ...Ok, Mommy - I'll use my inside voice for this story! (won't be easy tho... It's kinda long)

Well, it all started the day Mommy brought Simon home.  She noticed that his ears were missing some fur & figured either something was biting him or someone was beating up on him & since he was shaking his head a bit, she decided to take him to the v-e-t to make sure everything was ok...

As usual, when she went to pick him up, he cradled his head against her neck & relaxed - until he realized that she was putting him into the PTU - she tried to put a mousie that he was playing with in the PTU with him, but he took the opportunity to run - past me, past Nico (who hissed) & under the bed.  As she didn't have much time, Mommy had to pull Simon out & put him in the PTU.  Strike number one.  Even though he was a wonderful traveler as she drove home from Ohio, this time he cried the whole way - she felt awful & kept thinking about how it must've happened the first time he was abandoned at the shelter in Kentucky.

The v-e-t was pretty quick, but she had to do a scraping of his ear & his forehead to test for a certain type of parasite.  Strike number two.

When the v-e-t came back in to tell her that the test was negative, she did a cat scan (get it?) of his body to make sure that something called chip was working.  When it didn't register, Mommy got a little worried.  Even though Simon doesn't show any interest in going outside, we all know it only takes one time to get lost (I was never interested in going out either but when we lived in an apartment, my Grandma accidentally left the door open once.  Nico didn't budge, but she found me way over on the other side of the building wandering around!)

She called the service & they told her to take Simon to a different v-e-t.  She didn't want to do it, but had to make sure that chip was doing it's job.  This time, Simon saw her coming & dashed under the bed - as she didn't have too much time again, she brought out the treats & we all came running.  Same as before, she scooped him up & put him in the PTU & he cried.  Strike number three!! This new v-e-t had the right kind of cat scan & chip beeped!  However, Simon was so traumatized that when she got home & let him out, he ran under the bed & DIDN'T EVEN COME OUT FOR FOOD!!  She put some treats out for him & let him calm down for a while.  When she came back in to check on him - THEY STILL WEREN'T EATEN!!  Anybody who knows Simon knows that he loves food - EVEN MORE THAN I DO!!

(*ugh* I can't whisper anymore!)
SIMON, I KNOW WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN ALONG TOO WELL, BUT WE'RE ONLY RAGGING ON YOU 'CAUSE WE KNOW YOU AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE!  PLEASE COME OUT & PLAY AGAIN!!!

PS. THE V-E-T SAID SHE THINKS SIMON MIGHT BE A DARK CHOCOLATE POINT INSTEAD OF A SEAL POINT (HE'S NOT NEARLY AS DARK AS NICO)!!  ...DARK CHOCOLATE - HAHAHAHA!

  1. Oh chocolates can be very stubborn. And they are very much into their routine and are difficult when the routine is broken up.. yes I know. I am a chocolate and I was the most difficult cat to get settled into the house the Woman ever had.

  2. Oh Poor Simon. I know all the ptu'ing might remind of times that were worse for wear but this is strictly for love. Over time you will see this and come out and be ready to receive some love and playtime with your brothers. Dont worry sweet

  3. Poor Simon! He was probably having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder! It will probably take him a while to understand he 's loved and wanted and that he doesn't have to worry about getting kicked out of his home ever again.

  4. Oh, no, poor Simon! Yes, we think it might take a bit of time for him to calm down and realize he's in his forever home. He's had a lot of upheaval and trauma so far in his life, poor boy. Poor mom! Our human says she hopes you have some adult beverages around, or something else to help you de-stress.

Lots of purrs and Light to you both!

  7. Oh no, poor Simon!!

Rumbles is the same way, he HATES the carrier and has a panic attack when he gets put into it. Rumblemum thinks it's to do with him flying from the South Island to the North Island (where we are) and every time he's put in the cage he worries that he won't come home again. He's much calmer when he can see me in my carrier, so the humans make sure our carriers face each other in the car. Maybe it would help to take one of you along for the vet visit? Just as comfort?

  8. Poor Simon. He has had a lot of upheaval lately and won't understand what is happening. Just giving lots of love and attention will make him realise that he is with you forever. He will come around in his own time as he gets his confidence back.

  13. We're sending lots of purrs to poor Simon and hope he comes out from the bed soon! Please keep us updated.

Franklin came from our vets' office (he was "dropped off" there as a kitten and had to live there for a while until we adopted him), so he gets really scared when he goes in for a check-up.

We hope Simon's ears are OK too! Do you think it is from stress? Dobby had a real problem with pulling his hair out when we first rescued him because he was so stressed out from all the changes in his life.

P.S. Our mom says to say she could never live in Hampton without A/C! We live in Blacksburg, in the mountains, and it is much cooler here than in Tidewater (usually!)

  14. Simon...we are purring and purring for you! You must think that everytime the PTU comes out it means your life is changing...and you don't want to leave your new momma or your new home. But guess what? This is a special PTU and it only makes round trips. That's right! It will always return you home.

    We love you Simon!

  18. Poor Simon! We can just imagine what that must feel like. We are pretty used to being here and know that Mummy would never abandon us now, but Pricilla was so worried the first time our parents went away and we had to go into a hotel! She thought it was another SHELTER!
    Logs of hugs to Simon!
Purrs, Keiko, Kenji, Pricilla and Yuji
